Course outline
This course in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is intended for teachers who wish to integrate a CLIL approach in their classrooms. The course is most suitable to teachers of younger learners between the ages of approximately eleven and sixteen years old, but would also be of interest to teachers of adults who wish to know more about CLIL.
The course is very practical in nature in as much as generic lesson plans are included as models for course participants to try out in their own classrooms and to further develop: the principles inherent in these model lesson plans can be applied to any topic area within a CLIL syllabus.
The course consists of five core modules intended to be completed one per week. However, participants will most usually spend considerable classroom time experimenting with the ideas and materials offered on the course and will engage in discussion with other participants and the course tutor on a regular basis on the course forums.
The course is fully online and there are no further costs to participants beyond the course fees. Participants do not need expert computer skills: a knowledge of Word and how to use email are all the skills required.
Technical backup and assistance is provided as and if required.
Start dates
The first start dates for this 5-week course are as follows:
2010
April 12th
October 18th
Given the nature of online courses, although we recommend you to begin on the start date given, it is possible for "late starters" to catch up quite quickly, within the first module of the course.
Note that courses will not begin unless there is a minimum of four participants.
Length & time commitment
It is notoriously difficult to predict exactly how many hours an online course will take any given student. For our courses, we believe you should estimate at least minimum 2.5 hours per module for the reading and completion of the tasks set, giving around 12.5 hours minimum for this particular course.
That estimate excludes the amount of class time you use for experimenting with the ideas and material from the course.
You should aim to complete each course module within 7 to 10 days.
